Hubbard Museum of the American West – Ruidoso, New Mexico

Affiliated with the Smithsonian Museum, the Hubbard Museum of the American West offers you the opportunity to see and learn about the political, social, business, cultural, and environmental history of the American West from the time of human habitation to the present day.  It specialized on the local and regional arts, history and culture.

The variety of exhibits, events and programs offered by the Museum will keep you enchanted with their diversity and educational value.  If there are videos being shown they begin at 2 PM Monday through Friday and 11 AM and 2 PM on Saturday and Sunday.  If there are other programs planned in the Cope Center the videos are not shown.

There is always something new to see in the range from diverse programming topics and activities to  see and do at the Museum.  They range from diverse programming topics to changing exhibits in the four galleries.  There are children’s interactive areas for the kids to do hands-on experiences of the lie during the late nineteenth century through the eyes of children of three cultures.  What a great way to expand the understanding of young people!

The foundaiton of the Anne C Stradling Museum of the Horse can be directly traced to one woman’s love for a magnificent animal…the horse.  Anne rode her first horse with her mother when she was less than a year old.  She participated in her first horse show at the age of 6.  At 7 she won her first hunter race in Far Hills.

Anne began her collection of horse-related items as a young girl on the wall in the family barn.  From that humble beginning of a collection came a collection in excess of 10,000 horse related items.  The Museum began in Patagonia, Arizona in 1960 but when failing health made her choose to do something permanent with her collection she contacted the Hubbard Museum and the collection was moved to Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico.

This museum and the collections for view will keep you enthralled for a couple of hours.  It is a delightful place to visit with so many things to see.  It is well worth the trip to Ruidoso to just witness this museum if you don’t have time for any of the other delights that this community can offer.
