The Alburquerque Museum of Art and History offer a wide range of displays for those that have an interest in the arts and history of the area.  There are revolving displays that are featured which allows for the public to see artifacts and works by famed artists from around the world without having to travel to England or elsewhere to see them.  Working with other museums around the world allows the exchanges to be done.

There are also permenant displays for you to enjoy such as:

Four Centuries: The History of Albuquerque The permanent history exhibit focus is on historical maps of the southwest region of the United States, Spanish occupation, Camino Real, Hispanic life, Civil War and statehood in 1912.

Common Ground: Art in New Mexico A permanent art exhibition highlighting a significant amount of museum-owned works from the late 19th century to the present day, including some that have never before been viewed by the public. It will be displayed chronologically giving visitors a glimpse into the evolution of art in New Mexico.

Brought to Light: A Great Depression Era Photographer’s Study of Albuquerque Business

Open through June 2008 The history of the depressions affect on Alburquerque was captured in the photos shown in this display.  Although the depression did not affect the city as much as it did other areas of the country it still took it’s toll on the population.  The photographer rode the train, stopped in different communities and for a modest fee took the pictures of the businesses.  When the pictures were done, the photographer sold them to the clients and then took the train to the next location.  The name of the photographer is not known, but the quality of work is outstanding.

Cultural Renaissance: 40 Years of The Albuquerque Museum
An exhibition celebrating the history of The Albuquerque Museum and featuring selections from the Museum’s art and history collections. On display through September 14, 2008.
 

The Sewell Family: Old Town and the Tourist Pottery Market
The story of Nelda Moorhead Sewell’s restoration of Old Town’s Patio Market, and Eleanor and Brice Sewell’s role in marketing tourist pottery at Crazy Horse Indian Arts. The exhibition features a selection of pottery with a strength in Acoma, Cochiti, Tesuque and Zia figures; visitors will also se WPA-era furniture made by Brice Sewell, Sr. and Spanish Colonial artifacts collected by Nelda Moorhead Sewell. More than 42 Native American potters are represented in the collection.

Miniatures and More
Featuring paintings, sculptures and photographs by some of the leading artists in the United States.  For the first time 12 large format pieces will add a new dimension to this annual exhibition which has traditionally only been comprised of smaller works. All the works are for sale with the proceeds going to support the Albuquerque Museum Foundation’s programs. This exhibition opens October 21 and runs through December 2.

Tours

Sculpture Garden Walking Tours - Docent-guided tours are offered Tuesday-Saturday at 10 a.m. during the months of April through November.

Old Town Walking Tours – Docent-guided tours are offered Tuesday-Sunday at 11 a.m. from mid-March to mid-December.

Except as noted, all events are free with Museum admission.

Don’t miss tours at Casa San Ysidro in the nearby Village of Corrales. Casa San Ysidro is a Spanish Colonial home owned and operated by The Albuquerque Museum. Casa San Ysidro is closed to the public during December & January.

Temples and Tombs: Treasures of Egyptian Art  A collection of magnificent objects spanning the full range of pharaonic history, from shortly before the Third Dynasty, about 2686 B.C., to the Roman occupation of the fourth century A.D. The exhibition provides a rare opportunity to view renowned Egyptian masterworks and lesser-known treasures before their final return to The British Museum.

Location: The Albuquerque Museum is located at 2000 Mountain Road NW, at the intersection of Mountain Road and 19th Street, directly west of Tiguex Park

To reach the Albuquerque Museum from Interstate 40

  1. Exit I-40 at the Rio Grande Blvd exit.
  2. At the bottom of the ramp, turn south.
  3. Continue to the stoplight at the intersection of Rio Grande Blvd. and Mountain Road; enter the left turn lane and turn left on to Mountain Road.
  4. Pass the first stop light on Mountain Road (San Felipe); at the second stop light (19th Street) turn right.
  5. The Albuquerque Museum is immediately to your right, set back from the road. Free parking is available on the grounds.
