Geronimo Springs Museum is an intriguing attraction located in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Whether you are spending time in Sierra County or just passing through, Geronimo Springs Museum is well worth a visit.

The Geronimo Springs Museum contains a variety of exhibits devoted to the history of Sierra County. It is named after the Apache warrior who used the hot springs located here as a central area for gathering his followers. You can drink or bottle the water that flows from a fountain sourced by the springs, plus tour the fascinating exhibits at the Museum.

There are nine rooms of exhibits plus one original miner’s log cabin to explore at the Geronimo Springs Museum. Each room contains artifacts and information on diverse topics related to Sierra County’s history.

The Fossil Room includes the skulls of both a mammoth and a mastodon unearthed in Sierra County, and also features displays of several other fossil and minerals. At the Apache room, visitors can see a life-size wax statue of Geronimo and view interpretive exhibits related to Apache history and culture. Details of Geronimo’s life are the focus of one display area, and Apache artifacts and artwork are displayed throughout the room.

The Hispanic Heritage Room includes a life-size traditional wooden territorial gate, plus recreations of Hispanic pioneer settlers. Artifacts from Sierra County’s early Hispanic families are featured in exhibits focused on the area’s Hispanic cultural history.

There are two Ranch Rooms visitors can explore at the Geronimo Springs Museum that contain a variety of interesting artifacts from Sierra County’s early ranch history. Photographs, branded wood walls, and an authentic chuck box are some of the interesting items you will see on display in the Museum’s Ranch Rooms. Early mining history in the local area is the focus of the reconstructed miner’s log cabin exhibit at the Museum.

One of the most impressive rooms at the Geronimo Springs Museum is the Pottery Room. Here you will see many stunning examples of prehistoric southwestern pottery dating from 200 AD to 1350 AD. Much of the pottery is Mimbres and Tularosa in origin, and almost all of it was found in and around Sierra County. Arrowheads, effigies, tools and various artifacts are also displayed in the Pottery Room.

You can tour the Wilson Room, which features diverse exhibits related to the early development of the Sierra County area, including its early communities and residents. There are also two Military Rooms to visit at the Geronimo Springs Museum.
